Reduce
We have made meaningful progress in reducing the weight of our packaging, which not only helps us to avoid using valuable virgin materials, but also to reduce carbon emissions over the entire life cycle of a beverage container. We have reduced the size of the plastic twist-off on sparkling beverages and Dasani bottles, and have reduced the weight of cans, PET bottles and glass bottles. We also have begun reducing weight in secondary packaging by eliminating cardboard side walls on corrugated trays. These and other measures reduced the materials we used in 2008 by approximately 31,000 metric tons.
